EU4BET CLUSTER

The EU aims to be climate-neutral by 2050; this objective is at the heart of the European Green Deal and in line with the EU’s commitment to global climate action under the Paris Agreement. Therefore, within the Horizon 2020 framework, the EU is promoting specific R&I programmes that can lead the way to realistic technological solutions, empowering citizens and aligning action in key areas such as industrial policy, finance and research, while ensuring social fairness for a just transition.

EU4BET – EU for Building Energy Transition

The COLLECTiEF, PRECEPT, PRELUDE, SATO and Smart2B projects are part of the R&I programs promoted by the EU which address, in particular:

  • social challenges, aiming at the introduction of secure, clean and efficient energy through the reduction of energy consumption and carbon footprint by a smart and sustainable use of components and systems with in-built intelligence;

  • challenges at an industrial level, introducing on the market technologies that enable energy-efficient systems and energy-efficient buildings with a low environmental impact.

Since the projects share similar challenges and objectives, they have decided to join forces and create the EU4BET cluster, in order to activate a virtuous circle that can foster the exchange of knowledge and information and increase, the general public and the stakeholders, the awareness of the EU energy transition initiatives.

CLUSTER GOALS

Define a knowledge sharing framework around common goals

Increase the outreach of each project’s activities and enhance the visibility of EU efforts towards energy transition

Enhance and rationalize communication and dissemination and stakeholders’ engagement activities

Strengthen the relationship between EU-funded projects guidelines

CLUSTER PARTICIPANTS

COLLECTiEF

COLLECTiEF implements and tests an interoperable and scalable energy management system based on Collective Intelligence to smart up existing buildings and their legacy equipment. Based on self-learning/self-optimizing algorithms, the COLLECTiEF system allows for easy and cost-efficient installation. The project aims to create a collaborative network of a large number of buildings that can provide grid flexibility and adaptation to climate variations while ensuring occupants’ comfort.

PRECEPT

The PRECEPT PROJECT is using cutting-edge technologies to transform conventional residential buildings into highly efficient and proactive residential buildings. The project will facilitate the smooth and almost zero operational costs of transformation increasing the buildings performance, energy efficiency, and the occupants’ well-being.

PRELUDE

PRELUDE project aims at improving the indoor conditions of buildings in an energy efficient and sustainable ways, assessing the right level of smartness necessary for any given household. Passive solutions, such as natural ventilation and cooling, will be prioritized through a free running strategy. Predictive maintenance will be implemented to reduce costs, emphasizing renewable energy sources. Big data and advanced analytic tools will be used to facilitate flexible building side demand and ease the integration into district heating and electricity grids.

SATO

SATO (Self Assessment Towards Optimization of Building Energy) project will implement a cloud based platform that can perform self assessment and optimization of energy consuming devices in a building. This platform will use an artificial intelligence approach combined with 3D BIM (Building Information Modeling) based visualization to provide an accurate vision of the real life energy performance of buildings and appliances. The SATO platform will allow all users, regardless of their educational background, preferences, or income, to interact with their homes and service buildings.

Smart2B

Smart2B aims to create a smart building system consisting of devices, a platform and services, that places citizens, building users and CECs at the heart of the building energy transition; in Smart2B, smart buildings will interact with their occupants and the grid in real-time, allowing energy efficiency and local flexibility. Existing buildings will become interconnected active elements reaching higher smartness levels.
